The 2016 romantic film Sanam Teri Kasam, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane, is making a surprising comeback at the box office. Despite struggling during its original release, the film’s re-release on February 07, 2025, has gained strong attention and earned an impressive ₹34 crore in nine days.

Record-breaking Success

It bounced back on Day 10 with ₹1.72 crore but saw a sharp decline on Days 11 and 12, dropping to ₹63 lakh and ₹36 lakh, respectively. So far, the total box office collection stands at around ₹37 crore.

Sanam Teri Kasam has surpassed Tumbbad, which previously held the record for the highest-grossing re-release in India with ₹32 crore. By February 16, it had earned ₹34 crore at the Indian box office.

Why the Re-release is a Success

Re-releasing Sanam Teri Kasam just before Valentine’s Day turned out to be a smart move, boosting its box office success. Thanks to the Valentine’s buzz, audiences flocked to theaters to enjoy this heartfelt love story.

Reports suggest that Sanam Teri Kasam could reach ₹50 crore net in India soon. In total, including its original run, the film has already surpassed ₹50 crore in gross earnings.

Trade experts believe the re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam was record-breaking, as both longtime fans and new audiences are rushing to theaters to enjoy it on the big screen. The film’s music, composed by Himesh Reshammiya, has been a major draw, with songs like Sanam Teri Kasam and Kheech Meri Photo remaining fan favorites.

Cast Reactions to the Film’s Revival

Harshvardhan Rane, who debuted in Bollywood with this film, thanked fans on social media for their love and support. 

Mawra Hocane, known for her role as the sweet and innocent Saraswati, called the re-release a “beautiful surprise” and shared her excitement. In a recent interview, Mawra Hocane shared her thoughts on Sanam Teri Kasam’s surprising success after nine years. She jokingly credited her husband for bringing good luck, saying, 

“If the film took nine years to reach these numbers, I think it’s because of my husband. The only thing that has changed since then is my marriage. The film was always there, but I truly believe it’s marriage luck because the dates match exactly.”

Expressing her gratitude, she added, “It’s unbelievable to receive so much love. I can see some of it, and I’m sure I’m missing out on a lot. But everything I see is overwhelming, and I’m just grateful for it.”

A Re-release That Won Hearts Again

Sanam Teri Kasam is the love story of Inder, a tough ex-convict, and Saru, a traditional librarian. They fall in love and marry, but a tragic event changes their lives forever. The film features cinematography by Chirantan Das, music by Himesh Reshammiya, and lyrics by Reshammiya, Sameer Anjaan, Shabbir Ahmed, and Subrat Sinha. 

Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor shared posts on their social media stories about the re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam. They praised this smart decision, and Anil Kapoor congratulated the film’s team, including Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, for the movie’s success.

Originally released on February 5, 2016, under Eros International, it received mixed reviews and failed commercially. However, after its re-release on February 7, 2025, it became a box-office success.
